The Dubai Media Council (DMC) has started a new program called the Media Knowledge Exchange Programme. The first step in this program was a five-day trip to Japan. The main goal of the trip was to make connections and learn from Japan’s media industry to help improve Dubai’s media sector.
The trip was led by Nehal Badri, the Secretary General of the Dubai Media Council. During the visit, the DMC team met with 22 important companies and organizations in Japan. These meetings helped to build a stronger relationship between Dubai and Japan and showed how Dubai is becoming a leader in media worldwide.
Learning from Japan to Grow Dubai’s Media
Mona Al Marri, Vice Chairperson of the Dubai Media Council, explained that this program is part of a bigger plan to make Dubai a leader in the global media industry. The program aims to bring new ideas, create growth, and find new talent for Dubai’s media sector.
“This visit helped us understand how Japan uses technology and creativity to grow its media industry,” said Al Marri. “We want to bring these ideas to Dubai and create a media environment that is as good as the best in the world.”
Exploring Different Media Areas
While in Japan, the Dubai Media Council met with top media companies, universities, and important leaders. They talked about many things, like new media technology, gaming, animation, movie making, and how media is taught in schools.

The team visited Bandai Namco, the second-largest toy company in the world, to talk about trends in entertainment and toys. They also visited the Tokyo Broadcasting System (TBS), a famous TV network known for its creative shows. They also met with the International Professional University of Technology, which teaches modern media and technology.
The delegation also met with Uni Japan, which organizes the Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF), to learn about successful film festivals and how to support filmmakers. Other companies they visited included TV Asahi, known for its popular TV shows; Shibuya Startup Support, which helps new businesses grow; Shochiku, a well-known film studio; and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), which helps businesses grow internationally.
Boosting Dubai’s Gaming Industry
One important part of the trip was to help improve Dubai’s gaming sector. This fits with the Dubai Program for Gaming 2033, started by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai. The Dubai Media Council met with some of the top gaming companies in Japan, like Sega, Square Enix, and Gree. These companies are famous for their gaming technology and innovation.
Sega, one of the largest gaming companies in the world, shared ideas on new gaming technologies. Square Enix, known for its popular games, advised on how to make better games. Gree, a leader in mobile games, talked about the mobile gaming industry.
Improving Dubai’s Media Strategies
Nehal Badri, Secretary General of the Dubai Media Council, said the trip helped them learn new ideas that will improve Dubai’s media sector. She said learning from the best will help Dubai create better content, grow talent, and use the latest technologies.
“We are always looking for new ideas and learning from the best,” said Badri. “What we learned in Japan will help us improve Dubai’s media industry and make it a leader in the global media world.”
Building Strong Relationships
The visit also showed that Dubai and Japan can work together more in areas like media production, talent sharing, and new media technology. This visit has placed Dubai as an important partner for Japanese media companies who want to expand into the Middle East.
The Media Knowledge Exchange Programme is an important step in Dubai’s plan to become a global hub for media, innovation, and talent. It will help Dubai grow its media sector and build lasting partnerships with the best media companies around the world.
