French Soldier Stabbed in Paris Ahead of Olympics; Terrorism Not Suspected PARIS — A French soldier was hospitalized on Monday after being stabbed while on patrol outside the Gare de l’Est train station in eastern Paris. Authorities confirmed the soldier suffered a shoulder blade injury but is in stable condition and not facing life-threatening injuries, according to statements from the Paris prosecutor's office and Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin.

The incident occurred as the city prepares to host the 2024 Summer Olympics. The soldier was part of Operation Sentinel, a French military operation initiated after the 2015 Paris attacks to enhance security across the country.

Reports indicate that the suspect, a man born in the Republic of Congo, shouted "God is great" during the attack, according to a police source familiar with the investigation. He was swiftly apprehended by other military personnel patrolling the area. The suspect, who has a history of psychiatric issues and was involved in a previous murder case, remains unidentified publicly pending further investigation.

Authorities, including the national counterterrorism prosecutor’s office, have stated that terrorism is not suspected in this case. Security measures in Paris are already heightened in anticipation of the Olympics, with plans to deploy 30,000 police officers daily and 18,000 military personnel during the Games. The city's security alert remains heightened following recent terrorist incidents.

Investigations into the stabbing are ongoing as authorities work to determine the motive behind the attack and assess any potential threats to public safety.
