Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, faced a devastating day as Russian forces launched a “massive” drone attack on Sunday, killing four people and wounding several others. The attacks shook the city, leaving rubble in streets and residents in fear.
Mayor Ihor Terekhov described the situation as chaotic on the Telegram messaging app, emphasizing the scale of destruction across the city. Among the victims, one person was found trapped under debris, highlighting the human toll of the strikes. Regional Governor Oleh Syniehubov confirmed 12 people were injured, including two children aged 11 and 12.
The assault included 15 separate strikes targeting six different neighborhoods in northeastern Kharkiv. This region, located just 30 kilometers (18 miles) from the Russian border, has endured repeated attacks since the early stages of the war but has largely resisted capture.
The violence was not limited to Kharkiv. In the Dnipropetrovsk region farther south, two people were killed in a Russian strike on the town of Marhanets, spreading the fear beyond the border city.
Residents described scenes of panic as emergency services scrambled to reach the wounded. Many families are left seeking shelter as authorities assess structural damage caused by the relentless drone strikes.
The attacks come amid an ongoing conflict that has lasted over three and a half years, with cities near the border frequently targeted, testing the resilience of communities and local services alike.
