Emirates, the globally recognized airline and the largest international carrier, has officially returned to Edinburgh after a three-year hiatus. A Boeing 777 aircraft made a celebrated arrival, welcomed with a remarkable performance by the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, adding a festive and memorable touch to the occasion.
This renewed daily service to Edinburgh marks Emirates’ eighth destination in the United Kingdom. It complements Emirates’ existing daily A380 flight to Glasgow, effectively bringing the number of weekly flights between Scotland and Dubai to 14. These flights not only cater to travelers but also offer increased cargo capacity, helping local industries and businesses tap into global markets more effectively.

In a statement, Adnan Kazim, Emirates’ Chief Commercial Officer, emphasized the strategic value of the UK for Emirates and expressed pride in resuming flights to Scotland. He noted that the Scottish market has a significant international appeal, welcoming travelers from all corners of the globe. Initially, the Edinburgh route will be served by Emirates’ Boeing 777 fleet, with plans to introduce the advanced Airbus A350, offering Emirates’ well-regarded Premium Economy experience and new Business Class cabin features. This added capacity and service will connect Scottish travelers with various destinations worldwide, including popular long-haul spots like Thailand, Australia, and, of course, Dubai.
The economic impact of Emirates’ return to Edinburgh is likely to be substantial. Tourism plays an essential role in Scotland’s economy, with 2023 alone seeing four million international tourists, generating nearly £3.6 billion. Emirates’ expanded operations are set to boost this sector further, drawing more visitors from Australia, India, and across the airline’s extensive network of 140 global destinations, thereby raising international awareness of Scotland’s rich cultural heritage and scenic landscapes.
From a trade perspective, the increased cargo capacity to Edinburgh, with an allowance of up to 16 tonnes per flight, is expected to provide significant support to local businesses. This expanded capacity will facilitate the transportation of high-demand Scottish exports such as salmon, shellfish, and whisky, offering efficient and reliable links to overseas markets.
Edinburgh Airport’s Chief Executive, Gordon Dewar, expressed enthusiasm about the airline’s return, highlighting the benefits for both business and leisure travelers. Dewar noted that the direct Dubai connection strengthens Scotland’s international reach, while Emirates’ extensive network opens up even more travel opportunities worldwide. Additionally, Dewar expressed anticipation for the future arrival of Emirates’ A350, which will enhance the passenger experience with new cabin offerings.
The reestablishment of Emirates’ Edinburgh route is part of the airline’s extensive UK network, which includes 133 weekly flights across eight UK airports—London Heathrow, London Gatwick, London Stansted, Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle, Glasgow, and now Edinburgh. Travelers can look forward to Emirates’ renowned in-flight experience, from gourmet meals to its entertainment system, ice, which offers a vast selection of movies, music, and other content.
Emirates’ current flight schedule to Edinburgh departs from Dubai at 14:50 local time, arriving in Edinburgh at 19:05, with the return flight departing Edinburgh at 20:40 and arriving in Dubai the following morning at 08:05.
In addition to expanding its network, Emirates continues to receive acclaim. Recently named “World’s Best Airline” by *Telegraph Travel*, Emirates was recognized for its exceptional performance across several categories, including punctuality, route network, and in-flight service. This accolade joins a host of other awards the airline has received, reflecting its commitment to delivering superior travel experiences.
For travelers interested in booking, tickets are available through Emirates’ website, mobile app, retail stores, contact center, and through various travel agents.
