On behalf of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly traveled to Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, to attend the 29th session of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 29). Prime Minister Madbouly, who is accompanied by Egypt’s Minister of Environment, Yasmine Fouad, will participate in the high-level segment of the conference on November 12 and 13, where he is scheduled to deliver a speech on behalf of President El Sisi.
At COP 29, Prime Minister Madbouly will engage in discussions with other global leaders and heads of government in roundtable meetings addressing critical climate action topics, such as climate mitigation, adaptation strategies, and climate finance. These discussions are vital for advancing international cooperation on tackling the global climate crisis.

In addition to Egypt’s delegation, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders, is also set to participate in the conference’s opening. This marks the first time in COP history that the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar has been invited to such a significant event. The invitation was extended personally by President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan, during his meeting with the Grand Imam at Al-Azhar in Cairo last June.
The Grand Imam’s participation underscores the role of religious leaders in the global dialogue on climate change. During his address, he will speak on Islam's perspective on environmental preservation and the urgent need for collective action against climate change. His speech will highlight the importance of leveraging religious values to raise awareness and galvanize action among communities, emphasizing the responsibility of all faiths to protect the planet for future generations.
COP 29, being held in Baku, Azerbaijan, is a key moment for global climate discussions, and the participation of both Egyptian and religious leaders reinforces the importance of inclusive action in combating climate change.
