Dubai’s gaming world took the spotlight this month with the biggest-ever Dubai Esports and Games Festival (DEF) 2025. This exciting event showed off new ideas, talent, and business chances across the city. It was the fourth season of the region’s largest gaming and esports festival, and it ended with great success. The festival had record numbers of visitors and confirmed Dubai’s goal to be a top city for gaming and digital innovation.
The festival, organised by Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), attracted more than 45,000 visitors, including fans, families, and professional gamers. Over 17 action-filled days, 12 big events took place, mixing fun for families with smart programs to help grow the gaming industry. The main events included the GameExpo, GameExpo Summit, Gaming Matters, Dubai Cosplay Championship, Play Beyond, plus many citywide tournaments, school challenges, and interactive experiences. The festival brought together everyone involved in gaming — from families and students to game makers, creators, and business leaders — all working together to shape the future of esports, technology, and digital growth.

Showing how big the gaming world is in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), DEF hosted 3.8 million gamers in more than 90 tournaments. Popular games like EA FC 25, Yalla Ludo, Tekken 8, Valorant, and Fortnite were played. The festival featured over 130 games, including more than 10 new releases. DEF’s main event, GameExpo, attracted over 34,800 fans and professionals who enjoyed special gaming experiences during Dubai’s biggest gaming weekend ever. Around 900 lucky winners got prizes worth over AED 700,000.
Dubai showed its strength in bringing the gaming world together by welcoming 2,000 professionals from 70 countries for two big business events. The festival also highlighted 260 small and medium businesses from gaming and tech, giving them access to global markets, investors, and partnerships between the public and private sectors.
DEF also focused on young people, with its Education Engagement Programme involving more than 16,000 students and teachers from 250 schools across the UAE. The program included gaming contests, workshops, career advice, visits from a game truck, and many learning activities. Over 7,000 students took part in the live Education Day at GameExpo, showing their gaming and presentation skills. The festival also held 95 workshops to teach skills and inspire creativity.
The festival’s activities supported Dubai’s big plans like the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 and Dubai Program for Gaming 2033. These programs aim to grow the economy and make Dubai a global gaming and esports center.
Ahmed Al Khaja, CEO of Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment, said the huge success of DEF 2025 shows Dubai’s rising role in the world of gaming and esports. He said the festival created many chances for people to follow their passion, use their talents, and grow the gaming industry. DEF brings together gamers, creators, startups, developers, investors, and experts, making it a powerful event for fun, innovation, and real business benefits. He added that DEF supports Dubai’s goals to build new industries, empower young people, and boost digital growth.
A Fun Place for Families, Friends, and Fans
The GameExpo event welcomed over 34,800 people including families, casual gamers, and esports fans for Dubai’s biggest gaming weekend. People explored a new space with eight fun zones like the Modesh Retro Zone, Emirates NBD Family Zone, The Amazon Joy Quest IRL Zone, the Main Arena, Gaming District, and others. Visitors enjoyed exciting gaming competitions, all-girl matchups, the latest gaming gear, cosplay contests, brand activities, and meetings with famous gamers.
For the first time, GameExpo teamed up with TikTok MENA to stream all the exciting moments live, so fans could watch from home or on their phones. Popular games like Valorant, Fortnite, Minecraft, Tekken 8, and Fall Guys were all streamed live.
Over 775 brands from different industries made the festival more exciting. Brands like Red Bull, ASUS ROG, Dubai Police, PlayStation, and Virgin Radio were part of the fun. Visitors got free Modesh merchandise and met the famous Modesh character during the weekend.
Exciting Creator Battles and Cosplay Fun
The Play Beyond part of GameExpo was full of energy with popular gamers like AboFlah returning to play exciting matches. Teams from Nasr Esports Academy and well-known creators fought in thrilling games, with Nasr Esports Academy winning the Play Beyond trophy.
The Dubai Cosplay Championship was a colorful event where talented participants showed off their costumes and creativity. They competed for AED 30,000 in prizes. Judges praised the creativity and skill of the winners, including Evgenii Aleksandrov, Ahmed Serag, Sofiane Touchene, and the group Rana and Fatima Al Yousif.
Big Esports Competitions
DEF 2025 included more than 3.8 million gamers competing in local and regional tournaments. Popular events like the Yalla Ludo Challenge, Red Bull matches, True Gamers Tournament, and Minecraft Family Challenge attracted large crowds. The FC25 Dubai Cup, held with PlayStation, had 31,000 players from across the Gulf, and a UAE player won the grand prize.
One special moment was an all-female Valorant match, supported by Benefit. Female players from the University of Wollongong and Princess Noura University showed amazing skills and excitement, thrilling the crowd.
Industry Experts Gather to Share Ideas
The GameExpo Summit brought over 1,700 professionals from 70 countries together to discuss the future of gaming. They listened to more than 75 speakers who talked about topics like AI, Web3, and how to grow gaming businesses. Over 2,000 meetings helped people network and form new partnerships. A new Investment Summit highlighted chances to invest in Dubai and other growing markets.
The festival also supported new game developers through the PitchPlay competition, where over 50 startups pitched ideas. Filiokus won the AED 55,000 prize. Indie game creators also shined, with winners like Fideo's Adventure and Mad King Redemption. The MENA Games Industry Awards 2025 celebrated the best game developers in the region.
The Gaming Matters conference brought together over 400 top executives and leaders to talk about gaming, esports, and Web3, focusing on the fast-growing MENA gaming market.
Preparing the Next Generation of Gamers
DEF focused on education by helping over 16,500 students and teachers learn new skills and explore gaming careers. Students competed for AED 50,000 in challenges like the Fortnite Quest and Minecraft Education Challenge. The Game Quest Express gaming truck visited schools with fun tech experiences. Teachers used the DEF Level Up Calendar for classroom activities, and students joined the Power Up Parade dressed as favorite gaming characters. DEF Education Day at GameExpo highlighted future learning with workshops by Microsoft and Unreal Engine, plus fun experiences like The Amazon Joy Quest and Just Dance.
Special Deals for Shoppers
The excitement spread to shopping, with deals at more than 2,500 stores and over 240 brands. Shoppers got discounts on gaming gear, electronics, toys, and more at popular stores like LEGO, Samsung, Sharaf DG, and Virgin Megastore. Malls including BurJuman, Dubai Festival City Mall, and Mall of the Emirates joined the fun. At Mall of the Emirates, customers spending AED 500 on electronics earned 15 times the SHARE points and could win instant prizes through gaming.
Visitors from outside Dubai enjoyed a 25% discount at select Rove Hotels, making it easier to join the festival.
As DEF grows bigger, it shows Dubai’s strong commitment to making gaming and esports a key part of its future—not just for entertainment but also for education, business, and economic growth.
The Dubai Esports and Games Festival 2025 was supported by top partners including Amazon, du, Dubai Police, Dubai Sports Council, Emirates NBD, Red Bull, Rove, Roxy Cinemas, talabat, and Virgin Radio.
