The organising committee of the Dubai International Rally, known as the Dubai Baja, has officially announced the launch of its ninth edition. This year’s event will begin from Dubai Festival City and will serve as the final round of the World Cup for Cross-Country Bajas for cars, motorcycles, and quads. The rally is organised by the Emirates Motorsports Organisation (EMSO) and will run from 20th to 23rd November. More than 30 countries are taking part, and a total of 94 vehicles will line up to compete. This makes the Dubai Baja one of the most important off-road events in the region and a true global gathering for motorsport fans.
The committee explained in its statement that choosing Dubai Festival City as the starting point adds a new and exciting experience for both participants and spectators. The location gives easy access to motor racing fans who can enjoy the atmosphere, displays, and preparation of the teams from the heart of the city. This means people no longer need to travel far into the desert to feel the excitement of an international rally. Families, tourists, and media outlets can now watch the beginning of the event from a lively city area, making the rally even more popular and accessible.
Khalid bin Sulayem, President of EMSO, expressed deep appreciation for the support offered by the Al-Futtaim Group. He said that their partnership has helped the Dubai Baja grow stronger every year. He added that bringing the opening ceremony to Dubai Festival City shows how a world-class desert rally can also be connected to the center of the city. He also thanked Toyota for supporting the event. The rally officials use Toyota Land Cruisers because they are strong, dependable, and well-suited for the tough desert conditions. Their use helps ensure smooth operations during the competition.
This edition of the Dubai Baja marks the final round of both the FIA World Baja Cup for cars and the FIM Bajas World Cup for motorcycles and quads. Because it is the last round, the event promises a dramatic finish to the season. The championship leaders currently include Argentina’s Yacopini in the car category, Emirati champion Mohammed Al Balooshi in the bike category, and Hani Al Noumesi from Saudi Arabia in the quad category. Their performances in Dubai will decide the final positions and may even change the standings completely.
Drivers from the UAE and the wider Gulf region will also take part in this exciting finale. Among them are Emirati drivers Khalid Al Jafla and Mansour Belheli, Oman’s Hamed Al Wahaibi, and Saudi Arabia’s Khaled Al Feraihi. Each of them is competing with experienced navigators, reflecting the region’s strong and growing motorsport culture. One of the inspiring competitors is Dania Akeel from Saudi Arabia, one of three women racing in the Ultimate class. Her participation highlights the increasing role of women in motorsport. International stars such as Toby Price, Martin Prokop, Henk Lategan, and Seth Quintero will also compete, adding even more excitement and a high level of competition.
The ceremonial start of the Dubai Baja will be held on 21st November at 8:00 PM. It is open to everyone and free of charge. This allows families, fans, and visitors to watch the competing vehicles up close, meet the drivers, and enjoy the festive atmosphere before the tough desert stages begin.
