Country music legend Dolly Parton, 79, has shared a heartfelt update on her health after missing a significant milestone in her career—the induction into the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) Hall of Fame. The ceremony took place recently in Orlando, Florida, and marked a notable moment in Parton’s life and the history of her beloved Dollywood theme park.
In a personal video message posted on social media, Parton addressed fans directly, explaining the reason for her absence. “Well, hey there, it’s Dolly. I sure wish I could be with you in person today, but I’ve been dealing with a few health challenges this fall, and my doctors told me to take it easy for a little while,” she said. Despite her absence, she expressed deep gratitude for the honor and highlighted the role of her longtime partners, Jack and Peter Herschend, in the success of Dollywood.
Reflecting on over four decades of collaboration, Parton praised her partners: “You’ve been a blessing to me, and I love you dearly. Our partnership is truly special. I trust them, they trust me, and they always listen when I come in with one of my big ideas and dreams.” She also credited the Dollywood team for bringing her visions to life, from the earliest concept of the park to its continued success.
Parton shared memories of the park’s opening in 1986, recalling her nervous excitement: “I was about as nervous as a kid waiting to see if anybody was going to show up at a birthday party. I peeked out the window of my bus, saw all those cars lined up, and would you believe it? They’re still lining up today.” Her words underscore her lifelong dedication to creating a space where families can laugh, play, and make lasting memories.
Being inducted into the IAAPA Hall of Fame is a milestone not just for Parton personally but also historically—she is only the second woman ever to receive the honor independently and the fourth woman in the organization’s century-long history. The recognition also coincides with Dollywood’s 40th anniversary, making the moment particularly meaningful for Parton and everyone associated with the park.
Parton’s health challenges have been ongoing this year, prompting her to postpone her first Las Vegas residency in over three decades. She reassured fans that, although she is undergoing some treatments near her home in Tennessee, her condition is manageable and “nothing major.” She explained that after years of caring for her late husband Carl and putting others first, she had neglected her own health. “I’ve got some problems, as I’ve mentioned. But I wanted you to know that I’m not dying,” she said candidly.
Earlier this month, Parton also accepted the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, sharing a touching message about gratitude and giving. Growing up in a household with 12 children, she reflected, taught her the importance of sharing and helping others. “The more you give, the more blessings come your way,” she said, holding her honorary Oscar and expressing her deep appreciation for the recognition.
Despite these health setbacks, Parton continues to inspire millions worldwide with her resilience, generosity, and unwavering dedication to her dreams. Her story reflects not only her artistic legacy but also her commitment to family, community, and creating spaces that bring joy and opportunity to others.
