Delhi HC Rejects Kalanithi Maran’s ₹1,300 Cr Claim Against SpiceJet

SpiceJet, a well-known airline, recently shared in a legal update that KAL Airways and Kalanithi Maran had asked for over ₹1,300 crore as compensation during a legal dispute. Maran and KAL Airways were earlier owners of SpiceJet.

This case went through arbitration earlier, where a group of three retired Supreme Court judges studied all the claims carefully. After examining the matter, the judges did not agree with the claims made by Maran and KAL Airways and rejected them.

Despite this, Maran and KAL Airways took their demand to the Delhi High Court, hoping for a different result. They first approached a single judge, who also rejected their appeal. Then, they moved to a higher bench—a division bench—of the same court.

On May 23, the division bench of the Delhi High Court gave its final decision. It clearly dismissed the appeal made by Maran and KAL Airways to claim damages of more than ₹1,300 crore and any other related demands.

SpiceJet said in its statement that all these claims had already been turned down by the arbitration panel and again by the court, so there was no reason to accept them now.

This decision brings relief to SpiceJet, putting an end to the long legal battle over the compensation claims
