OpenAI, the group that made ChatGPT, has shared a new tool. This tool helps ChatGPT remember what you talked about before. This way, it can give better and more useful replies just for you.

In a post online, OpenAI said that now ChatGPT can understand what you like, what you often talk about, and use that to help you write, learn, or ask questions in a better way. It can follow your old chats to give answers that fit you more.
The new tool is called “reference saved memories.” You can find it in the settings part of ChatGPT. First, this will be given to people who pay for ChatGPT Plus or Pro plans. But people who live in the UK, European Union, Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein won’t get it now. These places have special rules, and the feature needs to be checked first before it can be used there.
Before this, ChatGPT had a memory tool. It could remember small things about what you talked about. But this new update makes it more friendly. You don’t need to tell the same thing again and again. It helps the chatbot talk with you in a way that feels more real and kind.
Still, not everyone wants a chatbot to remember everything. So OpenAI is letting people turn this memory off if they want. You can also look at what ChatGPT remembers and choose what to remove.
If you want to chat without saving anything, there’s a “temporary mode.” It works like private mode in web browsers. In this mode, ChatGPT will forget the chat after you close it.
If you already use the memory tool, the new one will start working by itself. But we don’t know yet when it will come for people who use the free version of ChatGPT.
In short, this new tool wants to make talking to ChatGPT feel more like a real talk between two people. But you can still choose how much it remembers.
