The European Union has decided to wait 90 days before starting its plan to respond to the U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs. This decision came after Trump announced some changes related to tariffs, so the EU wants to give both sides a chance to talk and work things out.

Ursula von der Leyen, who is the President of the European Commission, shared this in a message on a social media platform called X. She said, “We heard what President Trump said. We want to give talks a chance. While we are getting ready to put the EU countermeasures in place, which had support from our member countries, we will delay them for 90 days.”
The European Union had been planning to take action in response to the U.S. tariffs, which had caused problems between the two sides. The EU was ready to put these countermeasures in place because many of its member states agreed. But now, they have decided to wait and see if the talks with the U.S. can help solve the issue without causing more trouble.
The EU’s choice to delay the countermeasures shows they want to give talking and working things out a chance. They hope that during the next 90 days, both sides can have discussions that will help avoid more tension and solve the problem peacefully.
The 90-day wait period will give the U.S. and the EU time to talk and figure out how to deal with the tariffs. If no progress is made during that time, the EU might go ahead with the countermeasures. But for now, they want to give talks a chance.
This decision is important for the world’s economy because the U.S. and the EU are two of the biggest economies. Their trade relationship affects the global market, and what happens between them could change how countries deal with trade problems in the future.
The U.S. and the EU have had problems in the past over trade issues. But the EU hopes this pause will allow both sides to find a solution without making things worse. The next few months will be very important to see if talks between the two sides lead to a good outcome or not.
