Cale Makar, a key player for the Colorado Avalanche, had an amazing game on Thursday against the San Jose Sharks. He scored two goals and helped with four assists, making a total of six points in a big 7-3 win. Even though his performance was impressive, Makar stayed humble and said, “I don’t know if they were really great. Nothing was super pretty.”

However, his teammate Nathan MacKinnon, who also played well with two goals and three assists, made sure to praise Makar. MacKinnon said, “Tough to find a better player in this league. It’s amazing. It’s fun to see.” He made sure to show how important Makar’s six-point game was for the team.
Makar’s performance set a new team record for the most points in one game by a defenseman. His six points also put him in a special group of only three defensemen in the past 30 years to have such a game. Makar joined Kris Letang and Sheldon Souray, who also had six-point games.
Makar shared how the team’s forwards were doing great. He said, “They’re finding ways to get to the net. And when guys do that, we just try and get the puck to the net from the back-end and they get rewarded.” This season, Makar has 24 goals and 50 assists, showing how important he is to the team’s offense.
Makar helped set up some big plays, like Joel Kiviranta’s short-handed goal, which started Colorado’s scoring. He also helped Martin Necas score on a power play and set up MacKinnon’s goals. Makar’s all-around help was a big reason for the Avalanche’s big win.
Makar’s six-point game made him one of only two players this season to get that many points. The other player is Nikita Kucherov. Makar’s performance was one of the best this year.
In other news, the Avalanche made a big trade. They got forward Brock Nelson and William Dufour from the New York Islanders. In exchange, they gave up defenseman Oliver Kylington, forward Calum Ritchie, and some draft picks. Makar said it was exciting to see the team add new players, adding, “It’s exciting to see that they want to invest in this group. We’ve just got to continue to play well and get better.”
MacKinnon agreed with Makar and said the team is focused on winning another Stanley Cup. He said, “It’s up to us. There’s no other way. We’re not in rebuild mode.” With these new additions, the Avalanche are ready to keep playing hard and aim for another championship.
