Amid challenging weather conditions in Lahaul and Spiti, the local police have issued a cautionary advisory, warning residents and travelers to avoid the Chandra River due to recent adverse weather events. They also released an avalanche advisory, urging caution on steep slopes and heightened vigilance in snowy areas.
Following recent snowfall and rainfall, an avalanche blocked the Chandra River's flow, leading to increased water levels. Consequently, individuals are strongly advised to steer clear of the river. Commuters are urged to exercise caution while traveling through snow-covered areas, where the risk of avalanches remains significant.

The advisory emphasizes avoiding steep inclines, staying informed about weather forecasts, and remaining vigilant in snowy locales. Adverse weather conditions have resulted in the closure of 112 roads, including three national highways, across Himachal Pradesh, with Lahaul and Spiti district being the most affected.
While higher elevations and tribal territories experienced light snowfall, mid and lower regions witnessed intermittent rainfall over the past 24 hours. Various areas recorded significant precipitation, including Hansa and Koksar in Lahaul and Spiti, along with other regions like Kothi, Chamba, Manali, Jot, Dalhousie, Keylong, Kasol, and Kangra.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted moderate rainfall, snowfall, thunderstorms, and lightning in several northern regions, including Himachal Pradesh, due to a fresh western disturbance and cyclonic circulation over Jammu and Kashmir. An orange alert has been issued for Himachal Pradesh from April 18-21, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, hail, and gusty winds in isolated areas.
These developments emphasize the importance of adhering to safety advisories, especially in mountainous regions prone to avalanches and adverse weather phenomena.
