Jasprit Bumrah, India’s top fast bowler, created history on Day 2 of the third Test match against England at Lord’s. He took five important wickets in the innings. This performance not only helped India but also made Bumrah’s name shine on the Honours Board at Lord’s, which is a big achievement for any cricketer.

Bumrah Breaks Kapil Dev’s Record

With this five-wicket haul, Bumrah broke the record of India’s legendary all-rounder Kapil Dev. Kapil Dev had taken 12 five-wicket hauls in Test matches played outside India during his career. Bumrah now has 13 five-wicket hauls away from home, making him the Indian bowler with the most five-wicket hauls in overseas matches.

Bumrah Missed Last Test Due to Workload Management

Before this Test match, Bumrah had to sit out of the second Test at Edgbaston because the team management wanted to manage his workload and keep him fresh. However, he returned strongly in the third Test at Lord’s and showed why he is considered one of the best fast bowlers in the world.

How Bumrah Took His Five Wickets

Bumrah took his 15th five-wicket haul in Test cricket when he dismissed England’s fast bowler Jofra Archer. Archer was bowled out by a brilliant delivery that came back sharply from a good length. Archer could not decide whether to go forward or stay back. The ball beat his defence and hit the stumps directly. This was Bumrah’s fifth wicket in the innings.

Earlier in the day, Bumrah had already taken four wickets in the morning session. He bowled a magical spell that broke England’s strong batting lineup. When the day began, England were looking to reach a big total as they resumed their innings at 251 runs for 4 wickets. But Bumrah had different plans.

Bumrah’s Magic Spell in the Morning

Bumrah started his day by dismissing England captain Ben Stokes. Stokes had scored 44 runs and was looking good. But Bumrah bowled a superb delivery that came back in sharply and hit the off stump. Stokes could not add many runs to his overnight score and was out early.

In his next over, Bumrah dismissed Joe Root, who is one of the best batsmen in the world. Root was on 104 runs and had just completed his century with a four off Bumrah’s first ball of the day. But soon after, Bumrah bowled a ball that went through the gap between Root’s bat and pad and hit the middle stump. This was a big wicket for India.

On the very next ball, Bumrah got another wicket. He bowled to Chris Woakes, who tried to play the ball but got a faint edge. The Indian wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel, who was playing in place of Rishabh Pant, took a clean catch behind the stumps. The umpire gave it not out at first, but India took a review, and the third umpire gave Woakes out. He was out for a golden duck, which means he was out on the first ball without scoring any runs.

Bumrah Almost Got a Hat-Trick

After these two wickets in two balls, Bumrah was on a hat-trick. He bowled a brilliant delivery to Brydon Carse, but the ball just missed the outside edge of the bat. Even though he did not get the hat-trick, his spell was very impressive and had already put England in big trouble.

England’s Fightback After Bumrah’s Spell

At one point, England were 271 runs for 7 wickets. Bumrah’s spell had broken their middle order, and it looked like India would be able to bowl them out for a low score. However, England’s lower-order batsmen, Jamie Smith and Brydon Carse, played well. Both of them scored important half-centuries which helped England reach a total of 387 runs. Jamie Smith and Carse’s partnership was crucial for England, as it saved them from getting bowled out for a low score.

No Celebration from Bumrah Despite His Record

Even after taking five wickets and breaking Kapil Dev’s record, Bumrah did not celebrate much. Usually, bowlers celebrate by raising the ball in the air after taking five wickets in an innings. This is a tradition started by former Australian fast bowler Glenn McGrath. But Bumrah was very calm and did not raise his hand.

Seeing this, his bowling partner Mohammed Siraj went to him and forcefully lifted Bumrah’s hand holding the ball so that the crowd could cheer for him. The crowd gave Bumrah a big round of applause for his brilliant performance. Bumrah is known for being calm and quiet on the field, and this moment showed his humble personality.

Bumrah’s Overall Figures

Bumrah ended England’s innings with bowling figures of 5 wickets for 74 runs. On Day 1, he had already dismissed Harry Brook, and on Day 2, he took four more wickets to complete his five-wicket haul. His performance was a major reason why India were able to bowl England out for 387 runs.

Most Five-Wicket Hauls by Indian Bowlers Away from Home

With this performance, Bumrah now leads the list of Indian bowlers with the most five-wicket hauls in overseas Test matches. The list is as follows:

  • 13 - Jasprit Bumrah

  • 12 - Kapil Dev

  • 10 - Anil Kumble

  • 9 - Ishant Sharma

This record shows Bumrah’s consistency and skill as a fast bowler, especially in foreign conditions where it is often tough for Indian bowlers to take wickets.

What’s Next for India in This Series

This was Bumrah’s second five-wicket haul in the ongoing Test series against England. He had also taken a five-wicket haul in the first Test match at Headingley. His performance is giving India a strong chance in this series, and fans are hoping that he continues to take wickets in the upcoming matches.

Bumrah – A Bowler Who Makes India Proud

Jasprit Bumrah’s journey as a cricketer has been inspirational. From playing in local matches in Gujarat to becoming the No.1 fast bowler in the world, his hard work and dedication have made him a role model for young cricketers. His ability to bowl yorkers, swing deliveries, and fast bouncers make him a dangerous bowler for any batsman.

Even though Bumrah does not show much emotion on the field, his performances speak louder than words. His record-breaking spell at Lord’s will always be remembered as one of the best by an Indian fast bowler in England.
