Builder Detained After Tragic Drowning Incident in Noida Pit

In Noida, local authorities have taken a builder into custody following the tragic drowning of 27-year-old Yuvraj Mehta, whose SUV fell into a deep, water-filled construction pit.

The builder, Abhay Kumar, is among the proprietors of the firm responsible for the project, while the second owner, Manish Kumar, remains at large.

The incident took place in Sector 150, where a 20-foot-deep pit, originally dug for a mall’s basement in 2021, became a hazard after construction halted. The pit, filled with water since 2022, poses a significant risk to public safety.

Following this unfortunate event, Mehta’s father filed a formal complaint that prompted police action against the construction firms involved. One company stated that the project had been sold in 2019-2020 to the current developers, with all necessary local authority approvals.

Investigations are underway to determine the negligence around safety protocols and why such a perilous pit was left uncovered for years. Meanwhile, the search continues for the second owner implicated in the project.

Officials have also urged builders and developers to adhere strictly to safety regulations at construction sites to avert future tragedies.
