In today’s fast-changing online world, social media apps help people share ideas, connect, and stay updated. For many years, Twitter (now called X) has been one of the most popular platforms. But now, a new app called Bluesky is becoming a strong alternative. Created by Jack Dorsey, the co-founder of Twitter, Bluesky gives people more freedom, control, and transparency.
This article explains what Bluesky is, how it works, and why it is becoming popular.
Bluesky is a new type of social media app. It is decentralized, which means it is not fully controlled by one company. Instead, it runs on a system called the AT Protocol, which lets people connect across different apps and networks.
Bluesky looks and feels a lot like Twitter. You can post updates, reply, and share content. But the main difference is that users have more power—they can own their data, move their accounts to other apps, and even choose which algorithms control their feed.
Jack Dorsey started the idea of Bluesky in 2019. He wanted to fix some of the problems that came with Twitter, such as:
Algorithms deciding what content people see without clarity.
Concerns about data privacy.
The need for an open social network where users have more choice.
Bluesky was created to give power back to the users instead of big tech companies.
Bluesky has some unique features that make it different from Twitter (X):
Decentralization: It is not controlled by one company.
Custom Algorithms: Users can choose how their timeline works—what they want to see first.
Data Portability: You own your account and can move it to another app.
Easy Design: It feels simple and familiar, especially for Twitter users.
These features give users more control and freedom.
The main difference between Bluesky and X is control. X is owned by Elon Musk’s company and is run in a centralized way. Bluesky is more open and gives users more say.
On X, there is a big focus on ads, subscriptions, and money-making. Bluesky, on the other hand, wants to build a healthier online space with fewer restrictions and less focus on ads.
Bluesky is trending for a few reasons:
It started as an invite-only app, which made people curious.
Jack Dorsey’s name adds trust and credibility.
Many people are searching for a safe, fair alternative to X because of debates around free speech, moderation, and privacy.
This is why Bluesky is being seen as a fresh new option in the social media world.
