Ipswich, who are near the bottom of the table, had won two of their last three away games. But they struggled from the start of the game. Ipswich didn’t get a single touch in Arsenal’s box during the first half.
Arsenal controlled the match, with Declan Rice playing an important role in the middle of the field. Ipswich tried to improve after halftime, but Arsenal still stayed on top. The only goal of the game came midway through the first half when Kai Havertz scored from a cross by Leandro Trossard.
Arsenal had more chances to score, with Rice, Mikel Merino, Martin Ødegaard, and Gabriel Jesus all coming close. But they couldn’t score any more goals. Havertz said after the game that it is always hard to break down teams like Ipswich, but he was happy with the win.
This win moved Arsenal one point ahead of third-place Chelsea and two points above fourth-place Nottingham Forest.
In another game, Brighton played Brentford to a 0-0 draw. Brighton had more chances to score but couldn’t find the net. This result means Brighton has not won in six games. Brighton’s striker, Julio Enciso, had many chances but couldn’t score.
Brentford also had a goal ruled out for offside early in the match. They played a little better in the second half, but they couldn’t pressure Brighton’s goalkeeper, Hakon Valdimarsson. Valdimarsson was making his debut after the regular goalkeeper, Mark Flekken, was injured.
Brentford has struggled in away games this season, with only two draws and seven losses. This match showed why they have had trouble winning on the road.
