New Delhi: Low-cost carrier Akasa Air is set to expand its international operations from Delhi, alongside plans for accelerated aircraft deliveries from Boeing, according to a senior airline official.
The airline, which began operations in August 2022, currently operates a fleet of 30 aircraft serving 24 domestic and six international destinations.
“We will soon have international departures from Delhi,” said Praveen Iyer, Co-Founder and Chief Commercial Officer of Akasa Air, at a briefing in the national capital. He added that the airline is evaluating overseas routes to cities including Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, Uzbekistan, and Tashkent.
At present, Akasa Air flies to six international destinations — Doha (Qatar), Jeddah and Riyadh (Saudi Arabia), Abu Dhabi (UAE), Kuwait City (Kuwait), and Phuket (Thailand).
The airline currently maintains 24 daily departures from Delhi. Iyer highlighted the importance of strategic expansion while ensuring high load factors and competitive airfares.
Akasa Air has placed a firm order for 226 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft but has faced delays in deliveries. With Boeing increasing its production rate, the airline expects aircraft deliveries to accelerate, enabling faster expansion of its domestic and international network.
Iyer also noted, “We are very happy with the ancillary revenue growth trajectory,” emphasizing that the airline is maintaining equilibrium between fares and load factors, supporting sustainable growth.
With its expansion plans and fleet growth, Akasa Air is positioning itself as a rising player in both domestic and international aviation markets, strengthening India’s connectivity to global destinations.
