Metabolism is how our body turns food into energy. Some people seem to eat anything and stay in shape, while others struggle to burn calories. Diet plays a big role in this process, and some everyday foods can naturally help boost metabolism.
Niru Kumari, executive dietician at Regency Hospital in Kanpur, explained that metabolism works like a car engine. Just as an engine burns fuel to give power, our body burns calories from food to produce energy. When metabolism works well, calories are burned instead of being stored as fat. This also affects how energetic or tired we feel during the day.
Adding certain foods to your diet can improve metabolism and energy. Green tea is a good choice because it contains antioxidants called catechins, which help burn calories and increase energy. Drinking two or three cups a day is enough. Chili peppers can also help. They have a compound called capsaicin that generates mild heat and temporarily increases calorie burn. A small pinch of fresh chili or red chili powder in meals a few times a week is enough.
Greek yoghurt is another helpful food. It is rich in protein and probiotics, which support gut health and help metabolism. Eating a small bowl of about 150 grams daily can give sustained energy. Whole grains like oats, quinoa, and brown rice take longer to digest, so the body uses more energy, and blood sugar remains stable. Swapping starchy carbs with these whole grains can be beneficial. Coffee in moderation can also help stimulate the nervous system and increase calorie burning. One cup of coffee in the morning without sugar is enough for alertness and metabolism support.
By including these simple foods in your daily diet, you can naturally support your metabolism, burn more calories, and feel more energetic throughout the day. Remember, metabolism varies from person to person, and genetics may also play a role, but diet is something you can control to improve your energy and health.
