Canada Faces Intense Winter Storms: Snow, Rain, and Ice Alerts Issued

Canada is currently under the grip of a severe winter assault, as major storms traverse numerous provinces, bringing substantial snow, freezing rain, powerful winds, and flood hazards.

In Atlantic Canada, winter storm alerts are in effect for Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and parts of Newfoundland. Some areas are expected to see snow accumulations between 25–40 cm, along with strong winds that impair visibility. Coastal sections may experience rain transitioning into heavy, wet snow, creating treacherous travel conditions.

The Prairie provinces are facing freezing rain, particularly in central Alberta and western Saskatchewan. Western Alberta is set to see a barrage of heavy snowfall, potentially reaching 30 cm over the span of two days. Authorities are advising caution on roads due to slippery surfaces.

In British Columbia, Metro Vancouver and nearby regions are under rainfall warnings, predicting 50–70 mm of rain. Flood advisories are currently active for rivers and streams, with the northern inland regions anticipating snowstorms that could deposit up to 30 cm of snow.

Ontario is also affected, with snow squalls impacting areas around the Great Lakes. Some locations could receive up to 40 cm of snow, severely affecting road conditions.

Nationwide, officials are urging residents to minimize travel and stay prepared for icy roads as Canada endures one of the most severe winter weather episodes this season.
