Andrew Wiggins delivered a thrilling finish for the Miami Heat, scoring a lob-pass dunk at the buzzer to lift his team to a 140-138 overtime win over the Cleveland Cavaliers. With only 0.4 seconds left, Nikola Jovic inbounded the ball perfectly for Wiggins, who slipped past his defender De’Andre Hunter for the game-winning slam. The Miami fans erupted as the Heat remained unbeaten at home.
Just seconds before Wiggins’ heroics, Cleveland’s Donovan Mitchell appeared to force double overtime with a clutch three-pointer. With only 0.4 seconds left, Mitchell hit an incredible fading shot from the corner, narrowly avoiding stepping out of bounds and shooting over Miami’s 7-footer Kel’el Ware. The moment brought Cleveland hope, but Miami’s last-second play silenced the Cavaliers.
Norman Powell had an outstanding game for Miami, scoring a game-high 33 points. His offensive firepower kept the Heat in control during key moments. Wiggins added 23 points to his game-winning dunk, while Jaime Jaquez Jr. contributed 22 points and 13 rebounds, helping the Heat stay competitive inside.
Rookie center Kel’el Ware played a huge role for Miami, pulling down a career-high 19 rebounds. His presence in the paint helped the Heat withstand Cleveland’s aggressive rebounding. Even though the Cavaliers grabbed 27 offensive rebounds compared to Miami’s 11, Ware’s defensive efforts proved vital in keeping Miami ahead in overtime.
With this victory, the Heat improved to a perfect 5-0 record at home. The game showcased two of the NBA’s top offensive teams battling until the final second. Miami’s energy and teamwork stood out, especially without two key All-Stars, Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro, who were sidelined due to injuries.
Donovan Mitchell once again led Cleveland’s offense, scoring 28 points along with 15 rebounds and eight assists. Hunter supported him with 23 points, while Evan Mobley added 21 points and 11 rebounds. Despite their strong performances, Cleveland’s missed free throws and defensive lapses in crucial moments cost them the win.
Cavaliers point guard Darius Garland returned from a toe injury and scored 11 points in just 19 minutes. Unfortunately, he re-injured his surgically repaired toe in the third quarter and did not return, leaving Cleveland short-handed for the remainder of the game.
Cleveland guard Sam Merrill struggled early, missing his first seven shots. But in the fourth quarter, he suddenly caught fire, hitting four straight three-pointers on consecutive possessions. His 12 quick points in just 88 seconds brought the Cavaliers back into the game and energized their bench.
The Cavaliers started the fourth quarter strong, tying the game at 106-106 after Merrill’s shooting streak. With under a minute to play, Evan Mobley made a go-ahead three-pointer and blocked Powell’s next shot. However, Cleveland missed key free throws down the stretch. Jaylon Tyson converted only one of two, allowing Jaquez to score a spinning jump hook with seven seconds left to tie the score at 128-128 and force overtime.
In overtime, both teams traded baskets, but Cleveland’s missed free throws proved costly. Mobley missed one that could have changed the outcome. Miami stayed composed, with Powell and Wiggins providing crucial plays. The final sequence saw Jovic deliver a perfect lob to Wiggins for the game-ending dunk as the buzzer sounded.
Cleveland coach Kenny Atkinson was ejected in the third quarter after receiving his second technical foul. His absence on the sidelines may have affected Cleveland’s late-game discipline, especially during defensive rotations and free-throw execution.
Despite missing two star players, Miami displayed strong team chemistry and determination. Powell’s leadership, Wiggins’ timely scoring, and Jaquez’s hustle kept the Heat competitive. The bench also stepped up when it mattered, helping Miami maintain their flawless home record.
The 140-138 overtime win will be remembered as one of the most exciting games of the early NBA season. Andrew Wiggins’ final dunk symbolized Miami’s resilience and teamwork. With the victory, the Heat continued to build momentum, while Cleveland will look to bounce back after a tough road loss.
