Sabalenka, who had won her last four matches against Vondrousova, looked poised for victory after claiming the first set. However, Vondrousova fought back, winning the match after a tense decider.
Vondrousova commented, "It was a very tough match... She's a great player so I just tried to stay in the rallies. But I stayed calm in the crucial moments."
In another quarter-final, fourth seed Elena Rybakina defeated Jasmine Paolini 6-3, 5-7, 6-3. Rybakina praised her energy and expressed satisfaction with her performance, despite facing challenges in the second set.
The results set up exciting semifinal matchups, with Vondrousova facing either Coco Gauff or Marta Kostyuk, while Rybakina awaits the winner between Swiatek and Raducanu.
Sabalenka's quarter-final appearance followed her friend Paula Badosa's retirement due to injury in the previous round. Rybakina's victory over Paolini showcased her resilience and determination on the court, reflecting positively on her form in the tournament.
