Maninder Sidhu's Strategic Visit to China for Trade Enhancement

Maninder Sidhu, the Canadian Minister of International Trade, is scheduled to visit the People’s Republic of China from April 12 to 13, 2026, in a bid to enhance trade relations and widen market access for Canadian enterprises. This visit is officially announced by Global Affairs Canada.

Throughout his stay, Minister Sidhu will take part in the China International Consumer Products Expo in Haikou, a notable global event uniting businesses and investors. Canada has been designated the Guest Country of Honour, showcasing around 40 Canadian brands. This event is a prime opportunity to exhibit Canadian offerings in consumer goods, agri-food, and lifestyle sectors.

Officials have indicated that the minister will engage with senior government officials and industry leaders to advocate for Canadian exports and forge robust commercial ties. The objective of his visit is to enhance access for Canadian firms in one of the world’s largest consumer markets.

On April 14, following the expo, Minister Sidhu will head to Guangzhou, renowned as an economic hub. Here, the focus will be on discussions with business leaders and investors across key sectors, particularly consumer products and the automotive industry. The agenda aims at uncovering investment prospects and fostering stronger economic relations.

The Canadian government underscores the importance of diversifying trade alliances, particularly in the face of a dynamic global economic landscape.
