Gautam Gambhir has told BCCI he wants a former RCB star as Team India's bowling coach.

Gautam Gambhir has been appointed as the head coach of the Indian cricket team by the BCCI, following the departure of Rahul Dravid who led the team to notable success in the recent T20 World Cup. Gambhir, known for his tenacity and leadership during his playing days, aims to bring his own coaching staff to the setup. Among his preferences are Abhishek Nayar, currently assistant coach at Kolkata Knight Riders, and former India and Royal Challengers Bangalore pacer R Vinay Kumar as the bowling coach, according to a report in RevSportz.

The 42-year-old Gambhir expressed his honor at serving the country and succeeding Dravid, stating, "I have always taken pride in representing India, and this new role is no exception." He extended congratulations to Dravid and his previous support staff, emphasizing his excitement about leading Team India.

In preparation for his new role, Gambhir looks forward to collaborating closely with the BCCI, Head of Cricket VVS Laxman, the support staff, and particularly the players, as they aim for success in upcoming tournaments. His first challenge will be the Sri Lanka tour, comprising three T20Is and as many ODIs starting July 27.

BCCI President Roger Binny praised Gambhir's appointment, highlighting his experience, dedication, and vision for the game as key attributes that make him the ideal candidate to lead Team India forward. The decision was backed unanimously by the Cricket Advisory Committee, comprising Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjpe, and Sulakshana Naik, who recommended Gambhir after the board invited applications for the position on May 13.

"We are confident that under his leadership, Team India will continue to excel and bring glory to the nation," stated Binny, reflecting the board's optimism for the future under Gambhir's guidance.
