UAE national chess player Mouza Nasser Al Shamsi achieved a historic victory at the World Amateur Individual Chess Championship. The tournament took place in Vrnjačka Banja, Serbia, from 5 to 13 November and featured top players from across the world. Representing the UAE, Al Shamsi competed in the Women’s 1700-rating category and displayed exceptional skill and strategy throughout the matches.
The championship was highly competitive, with players from many countries participating. Al Shamsi faced strong opponents in every round, including experienced players from Kazakhstan, India, and other nations. Her consistent performance and careful planning helped her advance to the final stages of the tournament, where she faced a Kazakh player in a decisive match.
In the final round, Al Shamsi won against her Kazakh opponent, securing the top position in her category. India finished third in the Women’s 1700-rating section, highlighting the global level of competition. Al Shamsi’s triumph was celebrated not only by her team but also by chess enthusiasts in the UAE and the wider region.
Al Ain Chess & Mind Games Club, the organization representing Al Shamsi, described her victory as unprecedented. This win marks the first time a female player from the UAE, the Gulf, and the Arab world has won a world title in an amateur chess championship. It is a landmark achievement for Arab female chess players and reflects the growing standard of chess in the region.
Al Shamsi’s success is inspiring young players, especially women, in the UAE and across the Arab world. Her achievement shows that with dedication and hard work, players from the region can compete and succeed on the world stage. The club and local chess communities hope this victory will encourage more participation in chess and support the development of female players in competitive tournaments.
Following her historic win, Mouza Al Shamsi has received praise from her club, local sports authorities, and chess fans. She continues to train and aims to participate in more international events, representing the UAE with distinction.
