Georgia continued its winning run in the famous “Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate” rivalry by defeating Georgia Tech 92-87 in Athens, Georgia. This victory gave Georgia its third straight win over its state rival. The match was full of energy, momentum swings, and strong performances from both sides, making it one of the most exciting games of the season so far.
Jeremiah Wilkinson and Blue Cain were the top scorers for Georgia, each finishing with 18 points. Wilkinson, a transfer from California, showed great confidence by hitting two three-pointers and driving inside with control. Cain also struck two long-range shots, helping Georgia keep the scoreboard moving. Their combined shooting made up four of the team’s six three-pointers in the game, showing their importance in key moments.
One of the biggest strengths for Georgia in this match was the strong performance from the bench. Georgia’s substitutes scored 44 points, compared to Georgia Tech’s 26. This depth helped the Bulldogs stay strong even when the starters rested. Jordan Ross added 14 points from the lineup, while Somto Cyril had eight points, six rebounds, and three blocks. Cyril’s defensive presence stopped several Georgia Tech attempts near the rim.
Georgia Tech did not make the game easy. Kam Craft led the Yellow Jackets with 17 points and shot an impressive 5-of-7 from three-point range. Craft’s accuracy kept Georgia Tech close throughout the match. Lamar Washington added 16 points, while Jaeden Mustaf scored 15 and also contributed six assists and five rebounds. Their teamwork and shooting helped Georgia Tech stay competitive until the final minutes.
The game was filled with exciting runs from both teams. Early on, Georgia fell into a quick hole but recovered through a 10-0 run. They kept that control for most of the first half until Georgia Tech responded with an 8-0 run to take a short lead. Georgia answered immediately with a 6-0 run of their own, entering halftime ahead 46-45.
Georgia Tech came out strong in the second half with an 11-0 run. Mustaf scored seven points during this stretch, helping his team take a 56-50 lead. But Georgia again replied quickly with another 10-0 run, trusting their depth and shooting. Jake Wilkins scored five key points during this move, cheered on by his Hall of Fame father Dominique Wilkins, who was in the crowd.
With the match tied 66-66 and less than nine minutes remaining, the game seemed ready for a dramatic finish. Georgia then produced a 7-0 run in just 56 seconds, shifting the momentum strongly in their favor. This run extended into a bigger 12-2 push that finally gave Georgia the lead for good. Georgia Tech tried to fight back by scoring 13 quick points in the last two minutes, but the comeback came too late.
This win improved Georgia’s season record to 4-0 and kept their perfect nonconference home record under coach Mike White. The Bulldogs have now won 31 straight nonconference home games during his time as head coach. The team’s strong depth, balanced scoring, and quick responses to pressure moments showed that Georgia is building confidence as the season continues.
Georgia will now prepare for tougher matchups as they continue their unbeaten start. Their deep roster and strong defensive moments give them hope for more victories. Georgia Tech, with a 3-1 record, will aim to build on its excellent shooting performance and correct defensive lapses that allowed Georgia’s runs.
