UAE Stars Shine with 2 Golds and Silver at West Asia U20 Athletics

The UAE national athletics team continued its strong performance at the 3rd West Asia U20 Athletics Championship in Beirut, increasing its medal tally to seven on Friday evening. The team added two gold medals and one silver, boosting their position in the overall rankings. The championship, featuring around 250 athletes from 10 countries, is set to conclude tomorrow.

Mariam Karim Wins Second Gold in 100m Hurdles.

Sprinter Mariam Karim once again impressed by winning her second gold medal at the championship. She claimed victory in the women’s 100m hurdles with a time of 14.04 seconds, narrowly beating Syria’s Rayan Hassan (14.06) and Jordan’s Nancy Abosarhan (17.33).

Karim had already won gold earlier in the tournament in the 400m hurdles, establishing herself as one of the standout athletes of the UAE team.

UAE Sets Records in Mixed 4x400m Relay

The UAE also celebrated victory in the mixed 4x400m relay final, where the team of Mariam Karim, Omnyat Qamardeen, Saeed Shuaib, and Abdulquddous Ahmed Ali set new championship and national records with a time of 3:26.62 minutes. This win added another gold to the UAE medal count and showcased the depth of the young squad.

Al Yaziya Tariq Shines in Javelin Throw

Al Yaziya Tariq earned silver in the javelin throw (600g) with a distance of 32.09 metres, setting new UAE records in both the U20 and women’s categories. Tariq had previously claimed gold in the pole vault, marking a strong individual performance across multiple events.

UAE Athletes Advance in Men’s 400m

On the men’s side, Sulaiman Abdulrahman and Abdulquddous Ahmed progressed to the 400m final after topping their preliminary heats, keeping hopes high for more medals as the championship comes to an end.

Federation Praises Young Talent

Khawla Sajwani, Board Member of the UAE Athletics Federation, praised the team’s achievements. She highlighted that the UAE has risen to second place in the overall medal table with seven medals. Sajwani emphasized the importance of nurturing young talent and stated that the federation is committed to enhancing the UAE’s competitiveness in international athletics.

UAE’s Strong Start at the Championship

The UAE had previously won four medals on the opening day, including two golds, one silver, and one bronze. With Friday’s successes, the team has demonstrated its growing strength in regional athletics and looks forward to finishing the championship on a high note.
