The UAE Fuel Price Committee has officially approved the fuel prices for the month of September 2024, providing clarity for motorists across the country. The committee, which meets monthly to review global oil market trends and adjust local fuel prices accordingly, announced the following new rates per litre:
* Super 98 Petrol: AED 2.90
* Special 95 Petrol: AED 2.78
* Diesel: AED 2.78
* E-Plus 91 Petrol: AED 2.71
What this means for drivers
This monthly price adjustment ensures that fuel prices in the UAE reflect global oil market movements. By doing so, the government maintains fairness and stability in pricing for residents, businesses, and transport companies. Motorists across the country will now pay slightly different rates compared to August, with a small adjustment that could affect household budgets, especially for those who commute daily or rely on fuel for business operations.
For families, even a few fils per litre can add up over the month, particularly for those who drive larger vehicles or travel long distances. Businesses in logistics, transport, and delivery services will also feel the impact, as fuel is a major part of their operating costs.

Why prices change every month
The UAE introduced monthly fuel price adjustments several years ago to align with international crude oil prices. This transparent pricing system means that when global oil prices rise, UAE residents see higher fuel rates, and when global prices drop, the savings are passed on to drivers.
The approach helps balance the national economy and ensures that fuel subsidies do not put extra pressure on government finances. At the same time, it encourages people to be more mindful of fuel usage and promotes energy efficiency.
Public response and daily life impact
For many car owners in the UAE, fuel prices are an important part of household planning. A rise of just a few dirhams on each tank refill can affect monthly expenses. Some residents adapt by shifting to fuel-efficient vehicles, using carpooling services, or relying more on public transport when prices climb.
Meanwhile, taxi operators, delivery riders, and private drivers closely monitor these monthly announcements since fuel is directly tied to their income and profit margins.
The bigger picture
Globally, oil prices have been influenced by several factors, including production levels set by major oil-producing countries, international conflicts, and seasonal demand. The UAE, being one of the largest oil producers in the world, plays a key role in energy markets, but it still adjusts local retail fuel prices according to international benchmarks.
By linking domestic fuel prices to global rates, the UAE continues to build a sustainable and competitive market. This also helps the country stay aligned with its long-term energy strategy, which includes promoting renewable energy, cleaner fuels, and reducing carbon emissions.
When do prices take effect?
The updated September 2024 fuel prices came into effect on September 1, 2024, and will remain until the end of the month. The Fuel Price Committee will meet again at the end of September to review October rates.
