New York, Sep 27, 2025 – UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed called for an urgent end to the Gaza conflict during a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.
This marks Netanyahu’s first meeting with a senior Arab official since Israel’s September 9 attack on Hamas leaders in Qatar, which drew strong condemnation from the UAE, prompting it to summon Israel’s deputy ambassador.
Sheikh Abdullah emphasized the UAE’s commitment to initiatives aimed at achieving a comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution, seeking a resolution that meets the aspirations of both Palestinians and Israelis.

The UAE, a key oil producer and regional trade hub, signed a U.S.-brokered normalization deal with Israel in 2020 under the Abraham Accords. The agreement paved the way for closer economic, security, and defense cooperation between the two countries, though ties have faced strain over Israeli policies in the region.
Earlier this month, the UAE warned that any annexation of the occupied West Bank by Israel would cross a "red line" for Abu Dhabi and could severely undermine the spirit of the Abraham Accords. Sources indicate that diplomatic ties could be downgraded if such annexation occurs.
The Gaza conflict has also prompted international responses, with France, Britain, Canada, Australia, and Portugal recognizing a Palestinian state last Sunday in an effort to promote a two-state solution. Israel sharply criticized these moves, and Netanyahu ruled out establishing a Palestinian state, while continuing military action against Hamas following the October 7, 2023, attacks that killed over 1,200 people.
The UAE-Israel dialogue at the UN underscores regional concerns over escalating violence in Gaza and ongoing tensions surrounding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
