President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has issued Federal Decree No. 27 of 2024, formally establishing the UAE Aid Agency. This new agency, which will operate under the International Humanitarian and Philanthropic Council, is tasked with coordinating and managing the UAE's foreign aid programs, aimed at addressing global humanitarian challenges and promoting sustainable development.
The UAE Aid Agency will have an independent legal personality and the full capacity to act in its humanitarian and philanthropic endeavors. The agency’s primary role will be to implement foreign aid initiatives in line with the country’s overarching policy for international humanitarian affairs. Its responsibilities include the planning, management, execution, and monitoring of government-backed humanitarian efforts. In particular, the agency will focus on disaster relief, early recovery programs, post-conflict stabilization, development programs, and capacity-building projects.
On the occasion of the agency’s establishment, His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the UAE's Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court, highlighted that the UAE Aid Agency is a continuation of the humanitarian legacy established by the nation's founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. Sheikh Mansour emphasized that this initiative reflects the UAE’s commitment to tackling humanitarian issues worldwide and fostering sustainable development across nations. He further pointed out that under the leadership of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, the UAE remains dedicated to this humanitarian mission, ensuring continued global support and cooperation.

He explained that the agency’s work will improve living conditions and support vulnerable communities around the world, particularly those in crisis-stricken regions. Sheikh Abdullah stressed that the UAE is committed to collaborating with international partners to create a lasting, positive impact through initiatives in critical sectors like education, healthcare, and infrastructure. This will help ensure sustainable development and prosperity for all.
H.H. Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Development and Fallen Heroes' Affairs, and Chairman of the International Humanitarian and Philanthropic Council, also spoke about the agency’s creation. He reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to addressing global humanitarian challenges in a coordinated and strategic manner. The establishment of the UAE Aid Agency, he explained, would strengthen the nation’s ability to maximize the positive outcomes of its global humanitarian efforts. Through this agency, the UAE aims to further enhance the impact of its foreign aid, aligning with its broader international role in humanitarian and developmental initiatives.
The UAE has long been recognized as one of the world’s most generous donor countries. According to the latest figures, the nation has contributed more than $98 billion (AED 360 billion) in foreign assistance since its founding. This aid has benefited over one billion people around the world, cementing the UAE’s reputation as a key player in global humanitarian efforts. The establishment of the UAE Aid Agency will build on this legacy, ensuring that the country’s support for global humanitarian causes continues to have a significant and lasting impact.
