The UAE Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, has reached a big achievement this week. It welcomed its two millionth visitor. This shows that the Pavilion is a place that attracts people from all around the world. It is not just a building, but a place full of ideas, learning, and hope for the future.
A Special Celebration Inspired by Japan’s Tanabata Festival
To celebrate this milestone, the UAE Pavilion organised a special event. The celebration was inspired by Tanabata, a famous festival in Japan. Tanabata is also called the Star Festival. It is a traditional festival that has been loved by Japanese people for many generations.

During Tanabata, people write their wishes on colourful strips of paper called Tanzaku. They then hang these Tanzaku on bamboo branches. People believe that their wishes will reach the sky and come true. Tanabata is a festival of love, hope, and dreams. It brings people together to share what they want for their future.
How The UAE Pavilion Celebrated Two Million Visitors
At the UAE Pavilion, the celebration was made unique by using palm leaves instead of bamboo branches. This is because the date palm is an important symbol in the UAE. Date palms have been part of UAE life and culture for thousands of years. They give fruit, shade, and are a sign of strength and growth.
During the celebration, visitors were invited to write their wishes for a better future on special Tanzaku cards. These cards were custom-designed for the Pavilion’s celebration. People then hung their wishes on the palm leaves placed around the Pavilion’s outdoor signage area. Thousands of people took part in this beautiful event. The Pavilion’s forecourt became colourful with wishes, creating a beautiful scene of dreams and hopes.
Words from UAE’s Ambassador to Japan
Shihab Alfaheem, who is the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Arab Emirates to Japan, spoke about this happy moment. He is also the Commissioner General of the UAE Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka.
He said, “We are very honoured to welcome two million visitors to our Pavilion. This shows how much people from all over the world are interested in the UAE’s journey. Celebrating this moment during Tanabata was special for us. We respected a loved Japanese tradition and showed the spirit of cultural exchange, which is the heart of Expo 2025. Our Pavilion is a living space where ideas, creativity, and shared values come together.”
About The UAE Pavilion’s Theme: Earth to Ether
The UAE Pavilion has been designed with the theme ‘Earth to Ether.’ The Pavilion offers a multi-sensory experience for everyone who visits. It has five different zones. Each zone tells a part of the UAE’s story.
These zones show the UAE’s heritage, dreams, and the way it uses new ideas and technology. Visitors have said that they enjoy the Pavilion’s storytelling, its beautiful architecture, and the warm welcome they receive from the staff. All these things show the UAE’s wish to make strong friendships with other countries and create spaces where everyone feels included.
What Visitors Experience at the Pavilion
Since the Pavilion opened in April 2025, it has hosted many events and activities. These events have helped people understand more about the UAE’s culture and values. Some of these activities include:

Cultural Performances: Showcasing Emirati music, dance, and traditional art forms to entertain and educate visitors.
Creative Workshops: Visitors can join these workshops to learn about Emirati crafts, calligraphy, and art.

All these events are carefully planned to make sure people of all ages and backgrounds feel included and learn something new.
Why The UAE Pavilion Is Special
The Pavilion is not just about showing the UAE’s past and present. It also talks about the future. Its design and experiences tell visitors how the UAE wants to use technology, culture, and partnerships to build a better tomorrow for everyone.
The Pavilion’s architecture itself is a piece of art. It combines modern design with elements inspired by nature and traditional Emirati structures. This makes it not just beautiful to look at, but also meaningful.
