The United Arab Emirates has opened the Emirates Medical Centre in Khan Younis, located in the south of the Gaza Strip, as part of its humanitarian mission Operation Chivalrous Knight 3. This step is aimed at strengthening the local health sector, supporting hospitals, and providing urgent medical services to people affected by the ongoing humanitarian crisis. The new centre is designed to help improve the overall quality of medical care available to residents across the territory.
The medical centre includes several specialised departments and offers a wide range of services. It provides primary healthcare, treats injured patients, and handles emergency cases. The facility is also equipped with a pharmacy to ensure that patients receive the medicines they need without delay. This setup allows doctors and medical staff to respond quickly to urgent situations and reduce pressure on existing hospitals.
Ali Al Shihi, Head of Operation Chivalrous Knight 3, said the opening of the centre reflects the UAE’s continued commitment to supporting the people of Gaza. He explained that the initiative is part of broader efforts to reduce suffering and meet urgent humanitarian needs, especially in the health sector, during difficult times.
Dr Mohamed Rubayyi’, Deputy Head of the Support Committee for the operation, highlighted that the UAE is providing full support to Gaza’s health system under the guidance of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. He stressed that medical assistance remains a key priority for the UAE’s humanitarian mission.
Dr Sameh Hamid, Director of the medical centre, said the facility is fully prepared to receive emergency cases as well as patients seeking basic medical care. He added that the specialised departments and medical supplies will help deliver proper treatment to those in need.
Hiba Al Najjar, the WHO Health Coordinator in Gaza, praised the UAE’s continuous support since the beginning of the humanitarian crisis. She noted that the UAE had earlier established the UAE Field Hospital and has consistently supported hospitals across Gaza, helping the health system cope with serious challenges and continue treating patients.
The opening of the Emirates Medical Centre is part of the UAE’s wider medical assistance, which includes sending medical convoys, ambulances, medicines, and essential supplies. These efforts aim to strengthen healthcare services and ensure better treatment for patients, injured people, and the wounded throughout the Gaza Strip.
