The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) in Dubai has introduced the latest version of the Labor Accommodation System, as reported by the official news agency WAM. This new platform serves as the first national registry for workers' accommodation facilities, presenting them to companies across the UAE. The primary goal is to promote awareness about regulated accommodation units that meet the standards and regulations set by the Ministry and its government partners. By enhancing the quality and welfare of workers in the UAE, the initiative aims to reinforce the country's standing as a premier global destination for living, working, and investing.

Companies with 50 or more employees are urged by MoHRE to provide accommodation for their workers through approved systems. To facilitate this, the ministry has issued a statement directing companies to register the necessary data on the MoHRE website, specifically through the Labor Accommodation System accessible under the 'Services' icon. This action aligns with Ministerial Resolution No. 44 of 2022, focusing on Occupational Health and Safety and Labor Accommodation.

MoHRE has noted a significant rise in compliance among companies with labor accommodation standards and conditions. This increase is attributed to the online Labor Accommodation System, coupled with periodic inspection campaigns and continuous efforts to ensure companies fulfill their obligations. Non-compliant companies face legal actions and closer scrutiny until corrective measures are taken. The ministry underscores the success of partnerships with the private sector and awareness campaigns aimed at business owners, which have contributed to improving compliance levels.

The ministry has reported a remarkable 1,000 percent increase in the number of private sector companies adhering to labor accommodation standards and registered in the Labor Accommodation System by the end of 2023 compared to February 2022. This growth indicates a growing awareness among employers about the importance of complying with legislation to ensure workers' wellbeing and productivity.

Collaborative efforts among government entities play a pivotal role in promoting compliance among companies. In 2023, a total of 103 inspection campaigns were conducted in collaboration with federal and local government entities. These campaigns aim to ensure that companies and owners of labor accommodation facilities adhere to the standards set by the ministry, thereby ensuring health, safety, and suitable living conditions for workers, ultimately enhancing their quality of life and wellbeing.

MoHRE has established national databases for labor accommodations in collaboration with relevant federal and local government entities to streamline efforts and optimize monitoring of the working environment and living standards for workers. The ministry's comprehensive system for labor accommodation standards enhances the competitiveness and attractiveness of the UAE labor market while prioritizing workers' wellbeing and implementing health and safety conditions. These standards cover various aspects such as ensuring suitable buildings and locations, displaying company names in Arabic and English, providing amenities like water, electricity, and adequate spaces for rest, beds, and hygiene necessities.

Legislation concerning labor accommodation standards outlines comprehensive criteria to ensure workers' health, comfort, and safety. It mandates suitable living conditions, including amenities like water, electricity, air conditioning, sufficient lighting, designated areas for washing, cooking, and eating, and non-flammable building materials. Additionally, it requires adequate spaces for rest, ventilation, sanitary facilities, and hygiene necessities. Through these regulations, MoHRE aims to uphold the dignity and wellbeing of workers, reinforcing the UAE's commitment to providing a conducive and safe working environment for all.
