UAE–Canada Aviation Agreement Expands Passenger and Cargo Flights

The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) announced a major development in air travel between the UAE and Canada after successful Air Services Agreement talks held during the ICAO Air Services Negotiation Event 2025 in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. The agreement marks an important step in strengthening aviation ties between the two countries.

Under the new arrangement, UAE national airlines will be allowed to operate additional weekly flights to destinations west of the Ontario–Manitoba border. The deal also includes full fifth-freedom rights for all-cargo flights, allowing airlines to operate without restrictions between the UAE and Canada. This will support smoother cargo movement and expand trade opportunities.

The milestone is expected to enhance air connectivity, support economic growth, and open new opportunities for tourism and business. It also highlights the strong partnership between the UAE and Canada and their shared commitment to future cooperation in civil aviation.

Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director General of the GCAA, said the agreement reflects the long-standing and strong aviation relationship between the two nations. He added that the GCAA remains focused on building flexible international frameworks that meet the changing needs of the air transport sector.

Al Suwaidi noted that the expanded flight rights will help UAE airlines meet rising passenger demand while boosting tourism and trade. He also emphasized that this progress supports the UAE’s goal of strengthening its position as a global aviation hub by improving connectivity, infrastructure, and aviation services.
