Fujairah: Round 3 of the Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship (No-Gi) is set to begin this Saturday in Fujairah, marking an important phase in the ongoing season as leading clubs and athletes compete for top positions in the overall standings.
The championship continues to play a crucial role in the development of jiu-jitsu in the UAE by hosting regular competitions and implementing long-term strategies aimed at increasing participation and enhancing the sport’s overall standards.
This round presents a valuable opportunity for athletes to assess their physical readiness and technical skills. No-Gi matches are known for their fast-paced nature, demanding quick reflexes, sharp decision-making, and high levels of focus. These challenges help competitors refine their techniques and adapt to varying competition styles.
Abdullah Salem Al Zaabi, Director of Marketing and Corporate Communication at the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, highlighted the steady rise in participation levels. He noted that the growing number of athletes reflects the success of ongoing efforts to expand the sport and create more opportunities for competitors.
“The increasing participation in the championship rounds is a clear sign of the sport’s growth. It not only raises the level of competition but also provides athletes with a professional platform to develop their skills,” he said.
Al Ain Club athlete Theyab Alnuaimi, competing in the adults 62kg brown belt category, emphasised the unique challenges of the No-Gi format. He explained that the speed and intensity of such matches require constant focus, as even minor errors can significantly impact the outcome.
“This format pushes athletes to stay alert at all times. It also allows us to test ourselves against different opponents, helping us improve and gain valuable experience,” he added.
The championship continues to strengthen its position as a key event in the UAE’s jiu-jitsu calendar, offering a competitive platform that supports athlete development and prepares emerging talents to represent the country at regional and international levels.
