The Tamil movie Maharaja will be released in China on Friday. It is the first Indian movie to be shown in China after both countries agreed to settle their border issues last month. This agreement helped improve their relationship.
The movie has already had some early showings. It will compete with two other big films—Gladiator II from Hollywood and a Chinese movie called Her Story. Despite these big films, Maharaja has become very popular, with a high rating of 8.7/10 on the Chinese movie review site Douban. This makes it one of the highest-rated Indian films in recent years.

The film is directed by Nithilan Swaminathan and stars famous Indian actors like Vijay Sethupathi, Anurag Kashyap, Mamta Mohandas, and Natty Natraj. It was a big hit when it was released in India on June 14.
Maharaja is the first Indian movie to be shown in China since both countries agreed to move their soldiers away from the border. This agreement came after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping met in Russia in October. They decided to improve their relationship after a border clash in 2020.
Indian movies, especially those with actor Aamir Khan, have become very popular in China in recent years. Movies like Dangal, Three Idiots, and Secret Superstar earned a lot of money and won the hearts of Chinese audiences. Aamir Khan is very famous in China.
China has the most movie theaters in the world, with around 86,000. This makes China an important place for movie releases. Chinese critics believe Maharaja will do well there.
A reviewer named Wang Peiyu said Maharaja is unique because it keeps the audience on the edge of their seats. The film uses suspense and has different storylines that make the audience think. This is expected to attract many Chinese moviegoers.
People who watched the early screening said that Maharaja talks about real social issues while showing Indian culture and values. This helps Chinese viewers learn more about India. Indian films are becoming more popular in China because they deal with important topics in a way that is different from Western movies.
Gladiator II, a Hollywood movie, will also be released at the same time as Maharaja. While Gladiator II is expected to get a lot of attention because it has a big budget and a famous story, Maharaja offers something different. Its focus on Indian culture makes it special and could attract viewers looking for something new, unlike typical Hollywood films.
In short, Maharaja is the first Indian movie to be released in China after both countries agreed to fix their border issues. The film's special story and focus on Indian culture are expected to make it a big hit in China. Like other Indian films, Maharaja could be very successful there.
