Dubai: At World Art Dubai 2025, where artists from around the world showcase their work, one Indian artist is drawing attention through her quiet, meaningful creations. Suchismita Majumdar, a fine artist from Champahati, a small village in South 24 Parganas, West Bengal, is sharing her deep connection with tradition, nature, and emotion through her paintings and terracotta-inspired artworks.
Born in 1991, Suchismita has developed a strong artistic voice through freelance training and years of dedication. Her work often reflects the hidden beauty of village life, Indian heritage, and the emotions of everyday people. She uses acrylic and oil colors, adding texture and feeling with every stroke.
Art That Tells a Personal Story
Suchismita believes that every piece of art should come from a place of memory and feeling. “Sometimes a small moment, like the smell of soil after rain or the sound of a temple bell, stays in the heart. That’s what I try to paint,” she said in an exclusive interview with DXB News Network.
Her artwork includes women, animals, temples, and nature — not as separate subjects, but as parts of the same story. "They all hold memory and emotion. Together, they create a feeling, a world,” she shared.
Terracotta and Tradition
Suchismita also has a strong interest in Indian terracotta art. She believes that clay holds emotions, just like a diary holds words. Her paintings often carry textures and forms inspired by old temple carvings. For her, these ancient styles are not just historical — they are full of life and meaning.
Art with Emotion and Purpose
One of her most loved works, titled “Linger (Reluctance to Leave)”, shows a woman standing between tradition and change. It reflects the strength and patience women carry, especially during times of transition.
In another powerful piece, “Saviour”, she paints a family of cheetahs to bring attention to wildlife conservation. “These animals are disappearing. My painting is a way to ask people to care before it's too late,” she said.
Rooted in Village, Connected to the World
Growing up in a village gave Suchismita a close connection to nature, rhythm, and craft. “I learned to observe small things — the sound of rain, the feel of clay, the design of a rangoli. These details shaped how I see the world,” she explained.
Still, she respects how city artists bring new ideas and energy to art. She believes both village and city experiences can blend to create something special.
International Stage, Humble Heart
Suchismita’s work has been exhibited at respected galleries across India, including Academy of Fine Arts, Birla Art Gallery, and Gaganendra Gallery. In 2024, she also took part in an international exhibition at Maddot Art Center in Thailand.
Despite this growing recognition, she stays humble. “I don’t paint to impress. I paint to connect. If someone feels peace or memory while looking at my work, then I feel happy,” she said.
