Sergei Sobyanin has officially inaugurated the new T2 tram line in Moscow, marking a significant milestone in the city’s public transport network. Stretching 33 kilometres, the T2 line is now recognized as the longest urban tram route in the world.
The newly launched line connects the southern and eastern parts of the capital, running from Chertanovskaya station in south Moscow to Novogireevo station, which is part of the Moscow Central Diameter Line 4 (MCD-4).
Designed to improve daily commuting, the T2 tram route passes through 13 densely populated residential districts, providing convenient access to more than two million residents. The line features a total of 79 stops, ensuring wider coverage and accessibility across key neighbourhoods.
Despite its extensive reach, the full journey on the T2 tram line takes over two hours, reflecting its scale and the number of stops along the route. City officials believe the project will significantly ease traffic congestion and enhance connectivity between major urban areas.
The launch of the T2 tram line highlights Moscow’s ongoing efforts to modernize its public transportation system and provide efficient, sustainable travel options for its growing population.
