Marion Nestle, a well-known nutrition expert from New York, has spent many years studying how food impacts health. At the age of 89, she continues to inspire people with her simple approach to eating. Marion believes that food does not need to be complicated. She says that choosing natural and whole foods is one of the best ways to stay healthy for a long time.
In a recent interview, Marion explained that she follows the idea of “Eat food, not too much, mostly plants.” She says that food should be as natural as possible, not heavily processed with many artificial ingredients. She does not avoid any food completely and calls herself an omnivore, but she eats in small amounts and listens to her body. She believes that eating in moderation helps the body stay balanced and strong, especially as a person gets older.
Marion shared what she usually eats in a day. She starts her morning with coffee and a little milk. Later in the morning, she eats oatmeal, which is a simple and healthy breakfast. For lunch, she does not follow a strict schedule. Some days, she eats a salad. Other days, she eats whatever is available if she is meeting someone outside. When she is at home, she picks vegetables from her small garden on her terrace. If she has tomatoes, lettuce, or fruits like berries, she eats those with cheese or peanuts and sometimes with bread.
For dinner, she keeps it light. She often enjoys salads again. Sometimes, she has an egg or crackers with cheese. Her meals are not heavy, but they are filling and nutritious. She says that she enjoys the natural taste of vegetables and simple foods. They make her feel energized without making her feel too full.
Marion says that she does not like eating ultra-processed foods. These are foods that come in packets and have a long list of ingredients. She feels such foods do not taste good and are often not good for health. She prefers fresh vegetables because they have bright colors, good texture, and keep the body strong. She also does not take vitamin supplements because she believes her diet already gives her the nutrients she needs.
Marion understands that eating healthy can be difficult in today’s world. Many companies try to sell foods that look attractive but are not good for the body. She advises people to read food labels and check what is inside the product. She believes the more natural the food is, the better it is for health.
Her message is simple and encouraging. You do not need a strict diet plan or expensive health products. You just need to eat real food, enjoy your meals, and pay attention to what your body needs. At 89, Marion continues to live an active and healthy life, showing that small, consistent habits can make a big difference over time.
