Sharjah, UAE – His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has enacted a significant administrative shift with the issuance of Emiri Decree No. (61) of 2024. This decree marks the formal dissolution of the Sharjah Urban Planning Council, effective August 1, 2024, in accordance with Law No. (3) of 2014.
In a major reorganization effort, all rights, assets, properties, and obligations of the dissolved council will be transferred to the Sharjah Department of Town Planning and Survey (SDTPS). The transition also encompasses the relocation of all council employees, including their job grades and financial allocations, to various government departments and entities within Sharjah. This move aims to ensure continuity and efficiency, overseen by the Sharjah Department of Human Resources, in collaboration with SDTPS and other relevant authorities.

As part of this restructuring, Sheikh Dr. Sultan has also announced the establishment of a new entity within the SDTPS: the "Urban Planning Department." This new department is set to take over the responsibilities previously managed by the Sharjah Urban Planning Council.
Additionally, the decree includes the appointment of Eng. Khalid Mohammed Abdullah Sultan Al Ali as the new Director of the Urban Planning Department. Eng. Khalid, who previously served as the Secretary-General of the Sharjah Urban Planning Council, will transition into this role while retaining his current job grade.
This restructuring is expected to streamline urban planning processes and enhance the effectiveness of planning and development initiatives within Sharjah, reflecting the Ruler's commitment to evolving governance and administrative efficiency in the emirate.
