Sharjah’s road network is set for a significant boost after His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, approved two major development projects designed to enhance traffic flow across the emirate.
The first project targets a 5-kilometre stretch of the Sharjah Ring Road near the Etihad Rail station, with an estimated budget of AED 90 million. The upgrade aims to ease pressure on the busy Mleiha Road, which has seen steadily increasing traffic due to population growth and new developments in the surrounding areas. As part of the same plan, the University City Bridge will be expanded to include four lanes—two in each direction—improving connectivity and smoothing traffic movement towards Rakan Bridge.
The second project focuses on building a new bridge next to the Martyrs' Monument in Sharjah, allocated a budget of AED 60 million. Once completed, the bridge will provide a direct route for vehicles travelling from Mleiha Road to Mohamed bin Zayed Road. It will also serve drivers coming from Sheikh Khalifa Street towards Maliha Road, reducing the need for long detours. The bridge’s modern design is expected to add visual appeal to one of the city’s prominent landmarks.
Both projects mark a continued commitment to strengthening Sharjah’s infrastructure as the emirate expands. The improvements are set to ease congestion, enhance safety, and shorten travel times between major districts, supporting smoother movement for residents and commuters alike.
