Banana is a fruit that many people enjoy every day. Most of the time, we eat the banana and throw away the peel. But now, banana peels are becoming a new trend in skincare. On social media, many beauty influencers are using banana peels on their face. They rub the inside part of the peel on their skin and say it helps to make the skin glow and look young. Some call it a natural and gentle way to care for the face.
Herbal beauty expert Shahnaz Husain, who has spent more than 50 years working with natural skincare, shared her thoughts on this trend. She is known for promoting herbal and Ayurvedic beauty care around the world. She says people should understand how to use banana peels correctly and safely.
Shahnaz explained that many people believe banana peels can reduce fine lines on the face, help lighten dark circles under the eyes, and make the skin soft. She said some people feel a natural glow after using it. However, she also pointed out that there is not enough scientific research to fully prove these benefits. Many results shared online are personal experiences, which can be different for everyone.
Doctors agree with this. Dermatologist Dr. Pravin Banodkar said that social media videos can sometimes look more magical than real life. He said that lighting, camera filters, and editing can make the skin look better in videos, even if the product has not made a big change. Because of this, it is important not to believe everything you see online immediately.
Still, many people who have tried banana peel on their skin say they notice small improvements. Banana peel contains certain natural compounds that may help the skin feel calm and soft. It may help reduce redness or dryness for some people. But this depends on skin type and personal reaction.
Shahnaz shared four simple ways to use banana peel for skincare:
Rub the inside of the peel directly on clean skin
People gently massage the peel on their face for a few minutes and leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes before washing.
Use with honey
Some crush the banana peel and mix it with a little honey to create a smooth paste. This is then applied like a mask.
Use it under the eyes
Some keep the peel in the refrigerator for a few minutes and then place the inner side under the eyes to cool and relax the skin.
Add it to homemade scrubs
People may dry the peel, grind it into powder, and mix it with oatmeal or yogurt to make a natural scrub.
While these ideas are simple and natural, Shahnaz reminded that skincare is personal. Not every skin reacts in the same way. She advised that before trying banana peel on the face, it is important to check whether you are allergic to bananas. If someone has sensitive skin, they should talk to a dermatologist first. Testing a small patch on the arm before applying it to the face is also a safe step.
Shahnaz also shared that natural beauty remedies are often passed down from tradition and family habits. Many people trust them because they have seen others use them for years. But she emphasized that people should not expect fast or dramatic results overnight. Natural skincare usually works slowly and gently over time.
Another important point she highlighted was cleanliness. If a person wants to use banana peel, they should use a fresh and clean peel. The peel should be washed to remove any dirt or chemicals before using it on the skin.
Banana peel skincare has become popular mostly because it is easy to find and inexpensive. Anyone can try it without buying expensive products. It is also something that supports a more natural lifestyle, which many people prefer today. However, natural does not always mean perfect or safe for everyone. That is why expert guidance is helpful.
Even though scientific research is limited, the trend continues to spread online. Many people like to try home remedies because they feel simple, pure, and chemical-free. The experience of glowing skin after using banana peel may vary from person to person. But the idea of using something so common and natural in daily beauty care is interesting and attractive for many.
In the end, the message from experts is clear: trying banana peel for skincare can be safe if done carefully and slowly. It can help the skin look fresh and soft for some people. But people should not expect it to work like a medical or professional treatment. It is always best to listen to your skin and stop using it if there is any irritation.
