The Codex Alimentarius Commission was created in 1963. It is responsible for setting food safety standards to protect people’s health and promote fair food trade. The commission has 189 members and works with two major global organizations: the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
Dr. Hisham Saad Aljadhey, the head of the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA), expressed pride in Saudi Arabia's success. He said this achievement shows how the Kingdom is becoming a leader in global food safety. This is also in line with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030, which aims to improve the country’s international role.
Dr. Aljadhey added that the SFDA will keep working to improve food safety rules, help with worldwide trade, and support public health and growth globally.
Khaled Al-Zahrani, who has led Codex work for Near East countries, will now become the Vice Chair of the Codex Alimentarius Commission.
