Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has introduced a new generation of traditional abras, marking a significant step toward enhancing the city's marine transport network. This initiative reflects RTA's ongoing efforts to improve public transport services, making daily commutes more comfortable and efficient for residents and visitors. The newly designed abras also aim to promote marine tourism, further boosting Dubai's reputation as a world-class destination that attracts millions of tourists every year.

Ahmed Hashim Bahrozyan, CEO of RTA's Public Transport Agency, which oversees public transport operations in Dubai, emphasized the importance of this development. He said, "This step reflects RTA's commitment to enhancing service quality and improving the overall experience for marine transport users. Our goal is to align with RTA's strategic objectives by introducing modern, safer, and more accessible transport options for everyone."

The new abras have been upgraded to accommodate 24 passengers, an increase from the previous capacity 20. The design now fully complies with the Dubai Universal Design Code, ensuring greater accessibility for people of determination. Key improvements include more comfortable seating, better flooring, and a spacious layout with designated areas for passengers with special needs.

Technological advancements have also been integrated into the new abras, such as real-time information screens and digital destination boards to assist passengers. Passengers will now benefit from real-time information screens that display journey updates and other essential details. Additionally, digital destination boards have been introduced, making it easier for passengers to identify their routes. Safety features have been upgraded with advanced alert systems, enhancing overall security during travel.

Beyond passenger convenience, the fourth-generation abras have been designed with eco-friendly design in mind. RTA has ensured that the new boats comply with the highest safety and environmental standards, as outlined in the Gulf Standard Specifications for maritime safety regulations. These measures align with Dubai's broader goals of promoting eco-friendly transport solutions across the city.

With these upgrades, RTA continues to demonstrate its dedication to modernizing Dubai's public transport system while preserving the traditional charm of the city's iconic abras. The improved marine transport network is expected to attract more daily commuters and tourists, contributing to Dubai's growth as a global tourism hub.
