In an unexpected revelation, British comedian Rowan Atkinson has discussed his iconic character, Mr. Bean, as he prepares for the debut of his Netflix miniseries, Man vs. Baby, set to air on December 11. During a London screening of the series, Atkinson offered an unusually critical perspective on Mr. Bean, expressing his personal dislike for the character.
Atkinson characterized Mr. Bean as selfish and chaotic, comparing his antics to those of a mischievous child. He candidly stated that he wouldn't relish the idea of sharing a meal with such a character in reality. Despite Mr. Bean's immense global popularity and charm, Atkinson admits he finds the character quite unpleasant and would keep him out of his home. He noted that Mr. Bean mirrors some of his own childish behavior from when he was ten, blending self-interest with quirky problem-solving methods.
“I dislike Mr. Bean as a person. He is possibly a bit like I was at age ten – that sort of childish selfishness and working things out in a slightly eccentric way. But at the same time, I wouldn’t want him in my house,” Atkinson shared, revealing a rarely seen perspective from the mastermind behind one of the most beloved figures in comedy.
Nonetheless, Mr. Bean continues to be a major comedic ambassador for the UK. Since its launch in 1990, the franchise has spread to over 190 nations, amassed more than 35 million YouTube subscribers, and garnered over 12 billion views globally. The upcoming Netflix series, Man vs. Baby, is set to showcase Atkinson's classic humor through a fresh lens, offering fans insights into the creator's authentic thoughts about this legendary comedy persona.
