Red Bull’s two Formula One teams have confirmed they will hold a joint car launch event in Detroit, USA, in January 2026. The event will celebrate the beginning of a new engine partnership with American automaker Ford. Both Red Bull Racing and the newly named Racing Bulls will unveil their 2026 Formula One cars together on January 15. This launch marks an important moment as Red Bull enters the new F1 engine era with Ford as its power unit supplier.

The Detroit launch will take place just before the start of the official 2026 Formula One pre-season testing. The first test session is scheduled to happen behind closed doors at Barcelona’s Circuit de Catalunya from January 26 to 30. By announcing their launch date early, Red Bull becomes the first team to reveal its schedule ahead of the 2026 Formula One season. The early announcement underlines their confidence and readiness for the sport’s next technological chapter.

Currently, Red Bull’s Formula One cars are powered by Honda engines. However, this partnership will end after the 2025 season. From 2026, Honda will exclusively supply engines to the Aston Martin team. Red Bull will instead race with new Red Bull Ford Powertrains, marking Ford’s return to the sport as an official power unit manufacturer. The collaboration is expected to bring new innovation and competitiveness to Red Bull’s racing operations.

Red Bull’s team boss Laurent Mekies described the partnership as “a bold step into the future.” He explained that the collaboration represents years of planning and preparation by both Red Bull and Ford to create a strong, long-term alliance. This new partnership will also showcase advanced engine technologies designed to meet Formula One’s next-generation regulations focused on hybrid power and sustainable fuels.

Ford’s CEO Jim Farley expressed excitement about the upcoming launch and what it means for both motorsport and the company’s technological growth. “Since we announced our return to F1 with Red Bull, the Ford team has been working day and night to get ready for 2026. But this is about more than racing,” he said. Farley emphasized that Ford plans to apply the lessons learned in Formula One to improve their road cars and trucks. “What we will learn together with Red Bull will define the technologies of the future,” he added.

Ford’s involvement adds to the growing American influence in Formula One. Next season, General Motors will enter the sport with a Cadillac-backed team, while Ferrari-powered Haas continues to represent the United States on the grid. With three American-based Grands Prix—Austin, Miami, and Las Vegas—Formula One’s popularity in the U.S. is rapidly expanding. The Detroit launch location reflects Ford’s heritage and America’s increasing importance in the global F1 market.

Red Bull Racing enters this new era on the back of remarkable success. The team has dominated recent seasons, winning four consecutive drivers’ championships with Max Verstappen. Their 2025 campaign still has three races remaining, ending in Abu Dhabi on December 7. As the reigning champions, Red Bull’s early focus on 2026 demonstrates their desire to maintain their winning momentum under the new power unit regulations.

In 2023, Red Bull and their sister team, then known as AlphaTauri, launched their cars in New York City. This year, all ten Formula One teams came together for a joint event at London’s O2 Arena to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Formula One World Championship. The upcoming Detroit event continues the trend of high-profile global launches that bring Formula One closer to fans in key markets.

The 2026 Formula One season will introduce new engine rules focused on efficiency, hybrid technology, and sustainable fuels. Red Bull Ford Powertrains will make its debut as a fully independent power unit manufacturer. This new phase represents a major shift for both Red Bull and Ford, who aim to blend racing performance with environmentally responsible innovation. The Detroit event will symbolize the start of this journey, combining engineering excellence and global appeal.

For both companies, the partnership marks a milestone. Ford returns to Formula One after more than two decades, while Red Bull transitions into developing its own powertrains with a trusted global brand. The collaboration not only strengthens Red Bull’s competitiveness but also reinforces Formula One’s growing connection with American fans and manufacturers. The Detroit launch in January 2026 will be a historic moment, signaling a fresh chapter for Red Bull, Ford, and the sport itself.
