Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh has recently come under threat from Khalistani extremists following incidents at his international concerts.
Threats During Concerts
Reports indicate that during Diljit’s Perth concert, pro-Khalistan slogans were raised, coinciding with a threat issued by US-based Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. His upcoming performance in Auckland, New Zealand, has also reportedly been targeted by supporters warning of disruptions.
Despite these tensions, Diljit has maintained his composure, continuing to perform and connecting with fans. He shared a post thanking his Adelaide audience for their support, urging fans to remain calm and focus on their own actions rather than stress over external threats.
Background of the Controversy
The threats against Diljit began after his appearance on Kaun Banega Crorepati 17, where he touched Amitabh Bachchan’s feet—a gesture of respect that triggered backlash from Khalistani supporters. Pannun and his banned outfit, Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), released a video condemning the singer, claiming that he insulted victims, widows, and orphans of the 1984 Sikh genocide.
Pannun stated, "By touching the feet of Bachchan, the man whose words orchestrated genocide, Diljit Dosanjh has insulted every victim, every widow, and every orphan of the 1984 Sikh Genocide."
The SFJ group has been banned in India under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act due to its separatist activities, and the Ministry of Home Affairs describes it as involved in "subversive activities aimed at disrupting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of India."
Diljit’s Response
Diljit clarified that his KBC appearance was meant to raise awareness and funds for Punjab flood victims, not to promote any film. At his Brisbane concert, he addressed the situation with a message of peace and unity:
"Always keep talking about love. For me, this earth is one. My Guru says, 'Ik Onkar.' There is only love from my side for everyone, even if someone gets jealous or trolls me. I will always spread the message of love."
He further added that people should focus on their own hearts and actions, leaving the results to God, reinforcing his philosophy of positivity and compassion.
