Many people believe that if they want to eat healthy, they should stop going out to restaurants. But health experts say that you do not have to avoid dining out completely. You can still enjoy meals outside and stay on your fitness or weight loss plan by making a few smart choices. New York City-based nutritionist Remi Divine shared eight simple tips that can help anyone eat healthy while dining out.

Remi explained that the way food is prepared matters a lot. It is better to select food that is grilled, baked, steamed, or broiled. These cooking styles use less oil and are lighter on the body. On the other hand, foods described as fried, crispy, battered, or creamy may contain more fat and extra calories. So, choosing healthier cooking methods can prevent overeating and weight gain.

Another tip is to skip sugary or calorie-filled drinks. Many people forget that drinks such as soda or milkshakes contain a lot of hidden calories. Remi suggested drinking only water with the meal. This keeps the body hydrated and prevents extra calorie intake.

Most restaurant meal plates come with sides like french fries or chips. Remi advised asking for a side of vegetables or a salad instead. These options are lighter, healthier, and help you feel full without adding unnecessary fat.

It is also important to choose a meal that has a good protein source. Meals based on chicken, turkey, fish, or other lean proteins help keep the stomach full for a longer time. When the body gets enough protein, it helps in building strength and prevents overeating later.

Remi also mentioned being careful with sauces and dressings. Many sauces have extra sugar, fat, or salt. If possible, ask for sauces to be served on the side. This makes it easier to control how much you use.

Carbs are a big part of most meals, so choosing the right type is important. Whole grains like brown rice, quinoa, and sweet potatoes are healthier options. These foods give steady energy and prevent sudden sugar spikes that make the body feel tired later.

Eating out often leads to eating more than needed because restaurant portions are usually large. To avoid this, Remi suggested sharing meals with someone or saving half to take home. This helps maintain portion control and still allows you to enjoy the meal.

Lastly, eating slowly makes a big difference. When you eat too fast, the body does not get time to understand when it is full. Eating slowly helps the stomach and mind work together. It also supports healthy digestion and prevents overeating.

These tips show that eating healthy does not mean giving up going out. With small changes and awareness, people can enjoy restaurant meals without feeling guilty or losing track of their health goals.
