A professor from Andhra Pradesh has become the latest victim of a big online fraud. He lost almost ₹2 crore after falling into a fake investment trap that was run through WhatsApp. This sad incident shows how dangerous online scams have become, and how even well-educated people can be targeted.

How the Scam Started

The professor, who works at a private college in Andhra Pradesh, was added to a WhatsApp group earlier this year. The group looked like it was about stock market tips and investments. The people in the group claimed to be expert traders. They sent daily messages about how to make money quickly through trading.

They also shared screenshots of fake profits and success stories, showing others in the group earning large amounts of money in a short time. This made the professor trust them.

What They Promised

The scammers said that if he invested money in their platform, he could earn big returns. They even gave him a fake trading website to check his earnings. At first, the fake site showed profits. This made the professor feel confident, so he kept investing more money.

Over the next few months, he transferred money multiple times. Slowly, the amount added up to nearly ₹2 crore.

When He Realized It Was a Scam

After some time, when the professor tried to take out the money he “earned,” the website didn’t allow him. The people on WhatsApp also stopped replying to his messages. That’s when he knew something was wrong.

He went to the cybercrime police and filed a complaint. Police say the fake website was made to only show fake profits and collect real money from victims. The professor had no idea it was all fake until it was too late.

Police Investigation

The cybercrime team has started looking into the case. They are checking the money trail, the WhatsApp numbers used, and the fake website. Officers believe the scam was run by a group that has tricked other people too.

Police have warned the public to be careful of such scams, especially on WhatsApp and Telegram. They say that if someone promises you fast profits in trading or crypto, you should be very cautious.

Be Careful of Online Scams

This case is a strong reminder that scams can happen to anyone. Even a well-educated person like a professor can be fooled if the scam looks real enough. People should never trust strangers online, and they should not invest money without checking if the platform is legal and safe.
