Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he spoke to Elon Musk, the head of Tesla and SpaceX. During their conversation, they talked about the big possibilities for working together in technology and new ideas. Modi shared this news on X (formerly Twitter), where he mentioned they discussed things they had spoken about during their meeting in Washington D.C. earlier this year.

Modi and Musk met in February when the Prime Minister visited the United States. Musk brought his three children along during the meeting in Washington D.C. The discussion was part of Modi’s effort to strengthen the relationship between India and the United States, especially in business and technology.
This phone call came at an interesting time. Musk’s companies, Tesla and SpaceX, are looking to expand into the Indian market. Tesla is having talks with Indian officials about possibly setting up a factory in India.
In March, Reliance Jio, owned by Mukesh Ambani, made a deal with SpaceX to bring high-speed satellite internet to India through Starlink. Bharti Airtel, led by Sunil Bharti Mittal, has also signed a similar deal with SpaceX.
Modi used the phone call to remind everyone that India is eager to work more closely with the US in areas like technology and new ideas. He said India is focused on building stronger partnerships with the US in fields like space, artificial intelligence, and sustainability.
After the meeting between Modi and Musk in February, Tesla seemed to be taking steps to enter India’s market. The company posted 13 job openings in India, according to a report by Bloomberg. However, Modi’s social media post didn’t mention any specific plans about Tesla’s future in India.
A statement from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) after the February meeting said that Modi and Musk talked about ways to improve cooperation between India and the US in many areas, including space, technology, and sustainable development. They also discussed ways to help new businesses grow and work on good governance.
Before their meeting in February, Modi and Musk had met two times before—once in California in 2015 and again in New York in 2023. Their conversations are part of the ongoing effort to bring India and the US closer together in the fields of technology and innovation.
